"I. Declare. Bankruptcy!: Yet, It Won't Solve the Consumer's Financial Problems" with Casey W. Baker

This lecture will focus on a few different concepts under bankruptcy law that consumers and college students may not understand that will negatively impact their ability to obtain relief from the bankruptcy process. Examples of such impacts will include Chapter 7 means testing, secured, debt, priority debt, non-dischargeable debts, and asset exemptions. The talk will also consider some consumer protection statutes that sometimes offer relief as an alternative to bankruptcy, such as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act.
